Veterans to sell artwork at Armed Forces Retirement Home

The Armed Forces Retirement Home Open House is this Thursday at 8 A.M.

The Armed Forces Retirement Home is having their first Veteran’s Day Open House since the 2020 pandemic.

Veterans are excited to welcome locals back to finally see the amazing artwork they’re put together int hose four years.

“There are so many talented people here… through all different kinds of art: wood, acrylic, painting, crocheting, quilting,” said retired Navy Senior Chief Kimberly Golson, “So many different things that people can see. And knowing the public gets to see what veterans can do is incredible.”

There is something for everyone at this week’s open house. The place is practically over-flowing with art.

Many of the residents will be selling their artwork and projects — some are even planning to donate what they make back into the art program at the armed forces retirement home.

These veterans are passionate about what they do and they are thrilled to share it with the public.

“I think you’ll be very pleased with what you see,” said veteran and artist JB Atchinson, “and bring a little money with you, okay?”

If you’re not into arts and crafts, you can still show your appreciation this Veteran’s Day by joining them for a day of celebration at the Armed Forces retirement home.
