Locals spending hundreds on candy for Halloween

How much is too much to spend on candy? News 25’s Brooke Parker went out into the community to see what they thought.

There’s never too much candy. At least that’s what the kids would say if you asked them, but we asked the people buying the candy what their limit was.

Americans are expected to spend $3.6 billion on Halloween candy according to the National Retail Federation.

With prices on the rise, candy is a little more expensive this year, but it’s not enough to stop hungry trick-or-treaters.

To that, the Miestchovich’s say ‘bring it on,’ the money is nothing in comparison to seeing children enjoy the holiday.  “I just went and got some more, so we’re probably at about $200 now. Just the laughter and the joy of the kids, getting candy and seeing all the decorations, they really do love it.”

If you visit their house on Lakeview Drive, you’ll notice a sign out front raising awareness for CASA. “If we’re getting the extra attention at our house, we’d like it to go to a good cause.”

Here are some of your answers off of Facebook: Jessica Reed-Short said she spent over $500 on full size candy bars.

Denise Marie said she spent around $240 for 12 bags of candy. Kelly Englese said she spent so much she’s embarrassed to say.
