Long Beach Fire rebuilding station 3
Long Beach Fire Department Station 3 is coming together.
There used to be a station in Industrial Park, but it sustained damage after Hurricane Katrina. FEMA decided to build a wall around the building, which resulted in mold growth.
Harrison County was able to pay for half of the $1.1 million demolition and rebuild. The price seems steep, but it is set to be an extremely durable fire station that can withstand up to 175 miles per hour winds and has a metal framing rather than the traditional wood frame. Fire Chief Griff Skellie said, “I hope we did a good enough job that this will still be a good building 50 years from now and be a good value to the tax payers.”
Skellie tells us that the station should be finished by late November or early December.
