Juvenile injured in Saturday afternoon shooting

Gulfport Police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday afternoon in the area of Ohio and Indiana avenues.

Police said officers were patrolling in the area when they heard multiple gunshots. They headed toward the sound and found a juvenile victim had been hit.

Another officer saw a vehicle with three people inside fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. The officer tried to stop the vehicle when it crashed into a ditch and the people inside fled.

The officer engaged with one suspect, who had a rifle. The suspect dropped the weapon and run with a second suspect. The third was taken into custody. The other two suspects were later arrested without incident.

The victim was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition. Charges are pending.
