Parade Shooting Investigation Continues

Pass Christian Police Chief Tim Hendricks shuts down rumors of domestic terrorism and racial conflicts, as motives for Sunday’s fatal shooting at the Mardi Gras parade are still under investigation. News 25’s Laurene Callander was at today’s press conference where Hendricks spoke on the tragic event.
A yearly celebration quickly turned into mass panic and chaos at Sunday’s Mardi Gras parade in Pass Christian. Chief Tim Hendricks says police are investigating evidence linked to the crime. “We did impound a vehicle. There is evidence in that vehicle. We did tow it last night. It’s impounded at this time and they’re executing a search warrant for that vehicle today to see what evidence we can garner from that and what part that played in it.”
Out of six people involved in the shooting, two died, two were in stable condition at Memorial Hospital and two were released Sunday night. Hendricks also shot down outside speculation that the shooting was racially motivated or a form of domestic terrorism, saying it was a senseless act of violence. “These certain individual or individuals took an opportunity to perpetrate this senseless violence in the shooting. We want to make sure that everybody knows that, once again, we’re taking every step necessary to pursue this crime and bring those folks to justice,” said Hendricks.
What was supposed to be catching beads and having fun turned into police crime tape and two deaths. Some Pass Christian residents are not surprised about the violence. Melissa Necaise attended the parade. She said, “I brought my daughter last year when the fights broke out. She was a little scared, so I won’t bring her. If I do come it will probably just be adults. That’s my decision what I would like to do.”
Two different caliber cases were found at the scene but police cannot confirm how many suspects are involved. Chief Hendricks asks the public to bring in any pictures or videos taken at the parade or other information that could help close this tragic case.
