Southern Miss’ School of Ocean Science and Engineering receives accreditation

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Ocean Science and Engineering’s Bachelor’s degree program has been accredited!

The accreditation assures the program meets standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, while also anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

The interim associate director of the School of Ocean Science and Engineering, Christopher Hayes, said the accreditation establishes the program as one of the few accredited programs in the United States.

The interim director of the school, Dr. Robert Leaf, says supporting the Blue Economy Initiative in Mississippi is critical.

Dr. Leaf says the accreditation confirms the role of Southern Miss in promoting the Blue Economy and highlights the return on investment undergraduate students in the program will realize.
