Mississippi Aquarium offering sensory inclusive accessibility

The Mississippi Aquarium is officially a Kulture City Certified Sensory Inclusive Venue.

There are a lot of exciting things happening at the Mississippi Aquarium. So, that’s why they have just got these new sensory bags so that everyone can join in on the fun.

The sensory bags can be picked up at the desk inside the Changing Tides exhibit. Included in the bag are some fidgets, mood-cards, and noise-cancelling headphones.

The bags are targeted towards children, but there are signs designating loud and quiet areas for all guests.

We will all experience sensory overload at some point in our lives, which is the feeling of being overwhelmed because of our environment. For people with disabilities, such as sensory processing disorder, this feeling can cause them to miss out.  VP of Guest Experience and Education Meredith Horn said, “And we want to make sure that we’re catering to that. The certification process includes a lot of extensive training for our staff, so they know how to support and help and identify those guests in those situations. At Mississippi Aquarium, we welcome guests of all ages, no matter the needs. And we want to make sure that we’re catering to that.”
