Mississippi Power removes debris from waterways through annual Renew our Rivers cleanup

A local power company is kicking off the fall season with its annual waterfront cleanup.

Mississippi Power employees were at the Dock in Gulfport for the 16th annual Renew our Rivers cleanup. Over the years, hundreds of Mississippi Power volunteers have removed more than 400 tons of debris from waterways across Mississippi.

Renew our Rivers is an important aspect of Mississippi Power’s environmental stewardship program. This not only cleans and beautifies the area, but keeps the waterways safe for local boaters and marine life. Director of Environmental Affairs Michael Harvey said, “See, when we remove debris and trash from the waterways, it makes it safer for boaters and even marine life. So, that’s why Renew our Rivers is such an important part of our environmental stewardship plan. So, today we’re cleaning up the environment, but we’re also enhancing the community and the quality of life for our community.”

The Renew our Rivers Cleanup program was founded in 2005.
