Pascagoula Looks to Beautify Beachfront

The City of Pascagoula has big plans for its beachfront and city leaders say they’re ready to make it happen.
Pascagoula officials wants to start with phase two of their promenade project. Phase one of the project was completed in 2014 near Beach Park to the east, which includes the sand box area. Now the plan is to construct a concrete multi-use pathway that would include shade, lighting, fire pits and water fountains. This project is part of the Restore Act so they already have the funds for it. Now city leaders are getting ready to make their beach more appealing and safer for residents and visitors.
City of Pascagoula Public Relations Specialist Anne Pitre said, “It would be a great improvement for safety. A lot of people walk the beach right now but they’re kind of walking on the shoulder of the road. This would create some space between the walkers, cyclists and the traffic. We’re really excited to be able to give people some extra incentive to go out and walk the beach.”
After hearing back from residents on their plans, the city plans to move ahead with the promenade construction but they are considering changing the location of the fire pits and shade areas.
