Southern Miss football kicks off the 2023 season Saturday
We are just one day out from Southern Miss kicking off the 2023 college football season at home against Alcorn State.
Third Year Head Coach Will Hall says the program is as deep as it has ever been under his watch, but with that depth comes some inexperience, at least when it comes to Sun Belt action.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a Lending Tree Bowl win against Rice to cap off the 2022 season with a 7-6 record and will rely on depth to start the season off on the right foot, especially in the defensive backfield and at quarterback with Clemson transfer Billy Wiles under center. Head Coach Will Hall said, “MJ Daniels was a great player at George County, played as a true freshman at Ole Miss, played as a true sophomore, the way he’s worked, we think he’s going to be really good here, and then it’s good to have inexperienced guys that were highly recruits and have been in our program and are working really hard and our are type of kids. I don’t think we could be in a better situation with an inexperienced crew than we are with them. But like I said we’re going to roll it out there and see how they compete. I know they’re pushing each other and it’s going to be fun to watch.”
USM and Alcorn State kick things off at 6 p.m. Saturday from MM Roberts Stadium.
