Vandalism of Hurricane Katrina Memorial in Biloxi discovered on storm’s 18th anniversary
On the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Biloxi memorial was found vandalized.
The City of Biloxi is unsure when the vandalism happened and it’s unlikely that we will ever know when it happened, who did it, or why. The glass that holds donated items that victims found around the Coast was broken in four different places, at which point the cracks spread.
Many tiles around the flag pole have also been shattered.
The memorial has survived multiple storms and has some general wear and tear, so the city is going to take this opportunity to freshen the memorial up. John Majure with the City of Biloxi said, “Seeing that, it’s time to be updated and get it fixed. That’s a group effort with the city. We’re going to get it prepared. So, it will be back to being refreshed and be in good shape for everyone to be able to visit and see and be able to pay tribute to everybody who was lost in the storm.”
There is currently no time-frame for when the memorial will be fixed.
