Mississippi State issues statement on student’s death

Mississippi State University has released a statement regarding the death of a student over the weekend.

MSU officials and law enforcement are investigating the death of a male student in a parked car in a campus parking lot, but foul play is not suspected.

That student was identified as Maxwell Pennebaker, a sophomore from Madison.

MSU Police Chief Kenneth Rogers said campus police received a call around 1:10 on August 27th, arriving and pronouncing the student dead at the scene.

MSU’s Vice President of Strategic Communications Sid Salter said “The community’s thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends of the student who died.”

Salter said the university is offering counseling for those closely impacted.
