Two 15-year-olds charged with manslaughter in Gulfport

On August 26, 2023, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 15-year-old Kavion Dakari Hannibal and 15-year-old Desean Curtis Cooper and charged them each with one count of Manslaughter.

On August 26, 2023, at approximately 12:54 a.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to the 400 block of Kahler Street in reference to a shooting.

Officers arrived and made contact with a victim, later identified as Alexis McLaurin, who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Through the course of the investigation, it was discovered Hannibal and Cooper were mishandling a firearm and discharged it subsequently striking McLaurin.

Hannibal and Cooper were processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center to be held in lieu of their $1,000,000 bond.
