Memorial Gulfport receive national recognition for stroke care and aftercare
Memorial Health System in Gulfport has been nationally recognized by the American Heart Association.
They’ve been given the Gold Plus Standard for the 2023 ‘Get with the Guidelines’ recognition. They achieved this award in two categories: type 2 diabetes and stroke care.
In the past year, Memorial has been able to get their response time to strokes, such as how quickly they are able to receive and administer medication, down to less than an hour. This year, they are aiming for 45 minutes.
This awareness is all about being consistent in the care you provide and it wouldn’t be possible if everyone wasn’t on board. Stroke Program Coordinator Ashley Joyner said, “It’s not just one unit that’s doing all the great things. The patients arrive in the ER, they’re seen in the emergency department, radiology, ICU, the acute stroke units. And it’s that team work, that multi-disciplinary teamwork coming together, working together, making sure that we are following the guidelines, and that will ultimately improve their patient outcome.”
The team is excited to beat their record for treatment time next year.
