Guardianship Clinic hosted by local non-profits at Gulfport Circuit Court
A guardianship clinic was held at Gulfport Circuit Court.
Friends of Court and Catholic Charities work together for the ‘Kinship Navigator Program.’ Through this program, volunteer attorneys and Friends of Court are assigned to caregivers who are seeking to claim guardianship over a child.
During the clinic, they work through all the paperwork before returning to Judge Alfonso.
Catholic Charities helps these families work through financial obstacles that could prevent them from moving forward with gaining guardianship. Laquita Brown with Kinship Navigator Program said, “So, as we may or may not know obtaining legal fees or an attorney can get pretty expensive and so this service is here provided to the community at no cost out-of-pocket. So, it’s important to make sure the kids can stay where they are.”
Volunteer Lawyer Rodger Wilder said, “To give children that chance for a regular, decent, loving home is just a great feeling.”
