Memorial Health System offers new option for A-FIB patients
Memorial Health System is offering a new option for patients dealing with atrial fibrillation.
Cardiologist Dr. Antoine Rizk performs implants of the latest generations Watchman FLX left atrial device on patients with atrial fibrillation.
The Watchman FLX is used as an alternative to a patient having to be on blood thinners the rest of their lives.
The procedure is for people whose A-FIB is not caused by a heart valve problem.
The permanent device closes off the left atrial appendage of the heart to keep harmful blood clots from entering the bloodstream.
Closing off that appendage reduces the risk of stroke over time and patients may be able to stop taking their blood thinner.
More than 200,000 patients worldwide have had the device implanted.
Memorial Health System is one of a few in Mississippi to offer this technology. For more information visit wearememorial.com.
