New Red Cross director begins role

The new director for the Southeast Mississippi chapter of the American Red Cross begins his new role today.

Hattiesburg native John McCarty succeeds John McFarland, who died in May from cancer.

McCarty is a Southern Miss alum and has worked primarily in the non-profit sector, serving here on the Coast with the Mississippi faith-based coalition after Hurricane Katrina.

He also served on several non-profit boards and is a graduate of Leadership Gulf Coast, Leadership Mississippi, Mississippi Black Leadership Institute, and Gulf Coast Business Council Masters Leadership program.
