Winn-Dixie parent company negotiating with ALDI to sell its stores
Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie grocery stores and other similar brands, announced it is negotiating a deal to sell its properties to ALDI.
Under the proposed sale, ALDI will acquire all Southeastern Grocers stock in an all-cash transaction — which includes Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets brands — which includes about 400 stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.
Winn-Dixie operates stores in Long Beach, Gulfport, D’Iberville and Ocean Springs. ALDI opened a store in Ocean Springs last summer.
In addition, Southeast Grocers will divest itself of Fresco y Mas and that group will be sold to Fresco Retail Group.
The sale is expected to be finalized in early 2024. Until then Southeastern Grocers will continue its normal day-to-day operations.
After the sale is complete, ALDI will operate Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets under their existing brands. ALDI will then evaluate the stores to determine which locations will be converted to the ALDI brand. The remaining stores will operate under their existing brands.
