Battle of the Bands

For the first time since Hurricane Katrina rattled the Coast, the annual MLK Coastwide Celebration’s Battle of the Bands is back in its home in Biloxi.
School marching bands from all over the region came to MGM Park to rock the stands. Alcorn State University, McKinley High School of Baton Rouge, Moss Point High, Lakeside High and Medard Charter of New Orleans were a few in attendance. Not only does the new location offer more space but it allowed the event to take place where it originated after being held in Gulfport for years.
Biloxi Councilman Felix Gines said, “Oh, it feels great. One of the things I talked with Tim as soon as the park was finished was can we bring battle of the bands, can we bring the Martin Luther King holiday and celebration back to Biloxi. He agreed and this is what we have, an overwhelming crowd, a day of celebration, a day of peace and the legacy of Dr. King.”
Admission for the event was just one dollar.
