Kick-off party for End of Summer Barbeque Cook-off
The End of Summer Barbeque Cook-Off is almost here, but a kick-off was held last night for the sponsors that make this tasty tradition a reality.
The cook-off includes a BBQ contest, live music, and vendors, and admission is free. Proceeds from the event come from booth rentals and competitor fees.
Every cent made goes back into helping veterans, animal shelters, and food banks.
Sponsors were treated to dinner at Woody’s Roadside in Ocean Springs.
The City of Ocean Springs is also a major sponsor, offering the Veteran Memorial Park as a venue spot.
Roy McKenzie, owner of 4 Bulls Butcher Shop, leads the charge and tells us why these local businesses work together for this event. McKenzie said, “So, this is an opportunity for us as business owners to give back to the community. We’re looking forward to this year’s event. It’s going to be bigger and better than last year, and we’re excited!”
Ravin Nettles with the City of Ocean Springs said, “Our local businesses support our city and all our community events all the time, and so this is our opportunity to support them.”
The cook-off is September 16th and begins at 10 a.m. Vendors can still apply until September 1st, just drop by 4 Bulls in Ocean Springs.
