New York Group Serves for Ten Years
Thousands of volunteers came from near and far to help our community in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. One group from New York has made 35 trips in the past ten years to continue helping us rebuild.
This morning, the Harrison County Board of Supervisors honored members of Livingston County Cares for all their hard work to show their efforts are much appreciated. The nearly 900 Livingston volunteers who have made their way to the Coast have put in over a million dollars’ worth of work. Members tell News 25 a price tag can’t be put on the relationships they’ve build here over the years.
Tom Matthews volunteers with Livingston County Cares. He said, “It’s been an amazing experience. For me personally, it’s like coming back home, another home. So, it’s been a very meaningful experience for people to come to another part of the country and do service work and get to meet people and know you’re helping families.”
The group will be on the Coast all week completing their 35th volunteer trip in South Mississippi.
