Miss Mississippi makes guest appearance at USM Gulf Park Orientation

The USM Gulf Park Campus had a lot going on today.

Vivian O’Neal, the new Miss Mississippi, was touring the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park campus earlier today.

She was given a tour by Shannon Campbell, who is the senior associate vice president of Coastal Operation.

After being crowned Miss Mississippi almost two months ago, Vivian is proudly wearing her sash as she learns about the different aspects of film at the Fleming Education Center, laboratory research at Lloyd Hall, and ended with Hardy Hall.

With Vivian being a Southern Miss graduate herself, and previously working as a recruiter before earning the job of her dreams, she says being on campus feels like she’s right at home. “It just feels like a second home to me, and I’m so thankful to be able to represent Southern Miss as Miss Mississippi. We haven’t had an eagle win in some time, so I’m really thankful for that and thankful for that platform to be able to promote this University and promote education and higher education overall, so I love getting to use the platform of Miss Mississippi for sure.”

And the excitement didn’t stop there for Southern Miss.

Vivian ended her Gulf Park tour with a bang, as she spoke to incoming Gulf Park students who were also welcomed on campus.

It was the first day of orientation for students enrolling at the Gulf Park campus and 65 students had the opportunity to get their IDs printed, meet their advisors, and make sure they have everything ready for their first few days of class.

Students also got to hear from several campus leaders. Director of Student Engagement Jessica Langston said, “We love having students back on campus for orientation. It’s such a great day for students to get to know our campus and get to know all the services and resources that are here to support them in their journey, and it’s also just so much fun to have students and energy on campus ahead of the new year.”

The first day of classes on the Gulf Park Campus will be August 21st.
