Alabama National Champions
The College Football National Champion was crowned Monday night in Glendale, Arizona.
Head coach Nick Saban and the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide ended the Clemson Tigers bid for a perfect season 45-40 in the title game. Heisman Trophy winner and Crimson Tide running back Derrick Henry rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns, including a late game touchdown to clinch the game.
Coach Saban said, “We didn’t always play pretty in this game. It probably wasn’t one of our best games when it comes to flat execution but when it comes to competing and making plays when we needed to make them, it was probably as good as it gets. That is the kind of competitors that win championships.”
It’s Alabama’s fourth national title in seven years and Saban’s fifth, trailing only head coach Bear Bryant, who has six.
