Local discus thrower earn Silver medal at Junior Olympics
Earlier last month, we interviewed a student-athlete from Gulfport to discuss his preparation before he headed to the Junior Olympics.
Three weeks later, he’s back from the competition, and he didn’t come home empty handed.
Last weekend, Christian Collegiate Academy Sophomore, Sean Fairley, traveled to Eugene, Oregon, to compete in the Junior Olympics.
The competition took place on Saturday, and Fairley started out on top, but after two rough attempts, he fell back to fourth place.
He had two opportunities to show why he deserves to be competing for a national title, and he left as an All-American and a Silver medalist with a throw over 166 feet.
Going into the competition, I knew I would do really good because I just felt like something was going to go great, and knowing that I jumped to first place that quick, it felt amazing, but going down to fourth place, I was really nervous,”said Fairley. “I got scared a lot, but I just knew that I would have to throw one of the best throws I got and I did just about that.”
With Fairley being a multi-sport athlete for CCA, he will now focus on football season, but for him, it’s always track season.
