Southern Miss fan base impressing Sun Belt peers at Media Days

The Southern Miss baseball program continues to raise the bar, not only on the field, but in the stands, having set a new school record for attendance in 2023 on its way to host a second straight Super Regional.

USM is tenth in the country in average attendance, but it’s not just baseball. According to Athletic Director Jeremy McClain, the resurgence of football and men’s basketball, among others, simply adds to that tradition of having a passionate fan base and others took notice at this week’s Sun Belt Media Days. “Yeah, I think the one thing for us that we knew. I don’t know that our peers knew this coming into the conference is that the level of support from our fan base and the passion that our fans have to support their Golden Eagles, whether it be football, basketball, baseball, I think that’s been a really constant – that’s one of the things I’ve heard from our membership and from the conference office is that they’ve just been really impressed with the level of support that they’ve seen, and then I think we’ve done our part to kind of carry the water from the standpoint of being successful on the field or on the court, and it’s something that we want to continue to do. We really want to be a leader in this conference. We want to be one of the programs that helps move it forward, and so that’s our objective and we’ll continue to work to do that.”

USM football is coming off its first bowl game win since 2016 and men’s basketball is coming off a Sun Belt regular season title while going a perfect 15-0 at home.
