Texas man hit by train in Waveland after ending up on railroad tracks
A Texas man got turned around while in Waveland and ended up driving on the railroad tracks, where his vehicle was hit by a train.
Waveland Police Chief Mike Prendergast said Emmanuel Onyia of Garland, Texas, was driving a Hyundai about 2 a.m. when he got lost and ended up on the tracks by Coleman Avenue.
He was traveling westbound to try to find another road when he was hit by a CSX train also traveling west and pushed about 30 yards before ending up in a wooded area on the north side of the tracks near Favre Street and Central Avenue.
Onyia was checked by Waveland Fire and AMR personnel. He did not appear to have any injuries.
Rail traffic was shut down for about two hours while the vehicle was removed from the treeline.
Moss Towing had to use a Bobcat to remove the vehicle because it was so badly damaged.
