Humane Society of South Mississippi receives donation

Florence Gardens took the term dog house to a whole different direction and helped raise money for the Humane Society in the process.

McMurphy Homes is building 12 different styles of coastal modern homes in the Magnolia District of Florence Gardens, blending South Mississippi architecture with some inspiration from New Orleans.

11 of the 12 homes were named after the dogs of McMurphy Homes employees. Needing one more dog name for the last house, McMurphy Homes teamed up with the Humane Society of South Mississippi to host a contest on Facebook to allow users to submit their dogs name and photo in hopes of having a home named after their fur baby.

The last house was named after Wrigley, a beautiful golden retriever. Co-Owner Bo McMurphy said, “We partnered with the Humane Society and I think we had 180 shares. It reached 30 or 35,000. The winner is an awesome dog. So, we just thought it would be a lot of fun for the community and a way to raise money for the Humane Society.”

McMurphy Homes raised $2,000 for the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
