MSU Extension hosts ‘Fun with Food’ Cooking Camp for Children

It’s never too early to invite your child to help you in the kitchen!

MSU Extension invited children to the Pass Christian Library for a free cooking camp. The Fun with Food Cooking Camp is for students in the fourth through sixth grade and they learned how to make apple tarts from scratch!

The children cut puff pastries, utilized apple sauce, and sprinkled light brown sugar on top.

Participants also learned about the different types of food groups while making their items and it was obvious that their favorite part was the taste testing. Community Wellness Planner Jenna Quave said, “It is hands on cooking. They actually get to chop and taste the food that they create, and we learn about all food groups and just get them really excited about getting into the kitchen to try new foods. The more they’re likely to cook, the more they’re likely to eat those healthy foods.”

Tomorrow, the participants will have a graduation ceremony with their families and friends to celebrate the completion of the cooking camp.
