Drivers taking new routes to avoid I-10 construction

Not only is Menge Avenue causing some headaches, but there is some other construction causing safety concerns.

Concerns are rising with the increased amount of construction on I-10 which is forcing drivers to seek alternate routes to reach their destinations.

The construction on the Pearl River Bridge, which resulted in a lane closure on I-10, has also contributed to people’s avoidance of the interstate.

One of those routes has people diverting into Pearl River County via Texas Flat Road in Hancock County and Highway 43 to connect with I-59.

MHP Trooper Cal Robertson says it is important for motorists to stay attentive while driving unfamiliar routes and in construction zones. “As motorists are taking detours around the area, we just want people to pay attention to the road, construction workers. There is a law that covers and protects construction workers. If you see flashing lights, you have to slow down, move over if you can.”
