City of Gulfport celebrating 125 years

On July 29th, the City of Gulfport will celebrate 125 years with a party at Jones Park.

The event will not just be a day of celebration, but remembrance of the city founded by pioneers of the railroad and maritime industry.

Mayor Billy Hewes is excited about what the celebration will look like and how the city plans to honor the historic neighborhoods that make up the city. “Focusing on not just our heritage but specifically historic communities, neighborhoods, so there’ll be a parade it’s going to have bands and the stuff you see in parades, but we’ll have representatives at least each of these historic neighborhoods as part of that parade that goes through Jones Park and ends up with a lot of food, a lot of celebration, a lot of music and fireworks.”

The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with the parade getting underway at 5:30.
