Mississippi Aquarium keeps animals cool during heatwave

As extreme heatwaves move through the state, the Mississippi Aquarium is putting in extra effort to protect and care for sea life.

The Mississippi Aquarium is applying various cooling techniques to ensure the well-being of their aquatic inhabitants.

These techniques include monitoring water temperatures, filtration systems, and other additional cooling methods.

Keeping these animals comfortable is an important part of keeping them healthy.

Senior vice president of property operations at the aquarium, Jeffrey Gibula, provided a few ways they keep their sea babies hydrated.

“We also like to give animals during the day. We put enrichment up like sprinklers, or misting or we give them ice treats,” Gibula said. “We give them jello, ice trays that they like so anything that hydrates.”

And of course, the animals were treated to their own version of a Fourth of July Popsicle.
