LSU captures Omaha magic with 11th-inning walk-off win over Wake Forest

LSU Tigers did it the hard way, playing five games in six days and winning four of them to come all the way out of the loser’s bracket and move onto the College World Series championship series.

Last night, the Tigers gutting out their first extra innings win in more than a month, courtesy of Tommy White’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th in a 2-0 victory over Wake Forest.

Outside of a one-run loss to the Demon Deacons, LSU has been unbeatable throughout this extra special post-season run, winning nine out of ten games following an early exit from the SEC Tournament.

Now, it’s down to two, LSU and Florida, in a rematch of the 2017 championship series which the Gators won. LSU First Baseman Tre’ Morgan said, “Oh, I knew it was gone. I was on-deck trying to get my timing, but as soon as he made contact, I flipped my helmet and bat. I knew it was gone. It was awesome.”

LSU Designated Hitter Cade Beloso said, “That was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. That’s something you dream about as a kid hitting a walk-off homer in Omaha, Nebraska to send your team to a national championship. It’s like you’re playing backyard wiffle ball, and he just did it in real life, so that was unbelievable.”

LSU Catcher Alex Milazzo said, “The biggest thing for us is not changing game-to-game. I mean we treat the whole season like a 56-game playoff, and we’ve continued to do that, and that’s why we’ve had success so far.”

LSU Second Baseman Gavin Dugas said, “It means everything. LSU is a part of my heart, and I know how much it means in this fan base, to this program, to the university, so we’re just trying to make everybody proud.”

“For the history of this school, to be able to bring them back to the pinnacle of baseball, it’s awesome. But the job is not done. They don’t really care about the runner-up, so we’re not trying to stay there.”

LSU and Florida lead off their best-of-three series at 6 p.m. tomorrow from Omaha.
