Moss Point city leaders react to tornado damage
We’re hearing more from Moss Point city leaders today about the devastation the city has experienced.
Ward Six Alderman Wayne Lennep represents parts of the city that experienced the most damage. Lennep and other city leaders continue to assess the damage this afternoon as they coordinate relief efforts with state agencies.
While the damage is extensive, Alderman Lennep says River City residents will bounce back from this. “The area of Lovers Lane, which is North Griffin, Lakeview Avenue, Moss Point High School, the stadium, the gym, then moving southeast, the Methodist church, the Baptist church here. It’s just devastating to see this, you know. A lot of work to do, a lot of cleanup. We know our community will come together and help our churches and our neighbors, everybody build back.”
Jackson County EMA Director Earl Etheridge says early estimates indicate at least 100 homes and businesses sustained damage.
Six people were injured during the storm, but thankfully there were no deaths.
