Jackson County celebrates nature at Sand Jam ‘23

Jackson County’s annual celebration of nature made its return to the Coast. Saturday was a day of family fun at Sand Jam ’23 in Pascagoula.

Guests were able to explore the many habitats and wildlife our Coast has to offer. The free event had several activities to choose from such as button making, block printing, and interacting with animals.

Those in attendance also learned about different conservation efforts being done to maintain our habitats.

Christy Milbourne of Mississippi Turtle Rescue has tips on what to do if a turtle crosses your yard. “This time a year, a lot of females are crossing through yards to find good nesting places. Females, even water turtles, will walk, sometimes miles, to find the right place to lay their eggs and that means they may cross your yard, but just let them go. They’ll walk on. They’ll move on. They’re not going to hang around a long, long time.”

This is the third year Jackson County has hosted the Sand Jam nature celebration.
