USM fan support on full display for sold out Hattiesburg Super Regional
The Southern Miss baseball program is in the midst of its best season ever when it comes to home attendance.
It’s that passionate fanbase that could help USM make this the best season ever, period.
Tomorrow, the Golden Eagles are hosting Tennessee in game one of the Hattiesburg Super Regional for the right to go to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
In 2023, almost 25,000 more fans watched the Black and Gold play at Pete Taylor Park than they did last year, allowing Southern Miss to finish 10th in the nation in average attendance, more than any other school not in the SEC or Big 12. Head Coach Scott Berry said, “It is the best college baseball state in the country. To enjoy this time where – once again – our state is represented in that postseason and more importantly right now, we’re one of 16 teams that are left playing out of 305.”
Will Armistead said, “Oh yeah, I expect a ton of people to be here, just looking at ticket prices.”
Danny Lynch said, “I don’t know that there will be many Tennessee fans here. I know there’s been – I always see the stuff on Twitter. Their fans are going crazy with the tickets, but that’s how we like it. We want all Southern Miss fans here. Hopefully Southern Miss is able to get on the Tennessee website and get those 600 tickets they were giving them too.”
Dustin Dickerson said, “I think it’s going to be everything that last year was and even more. I think they’re going to bring the energy from pitch one and I think even before that. I think an hour before it’s going to be sold out, and I think it’s a little in part for us not getting a regional. I think they all wanted us to get a regional, and they’re going to show Tennessee fans and fans across the country why we deserve it.”
This season, USM went 26-5 at home, the best mark ever under Head Coach Scott Berry.
