City of D’Iberville opens first dog park

D’Iberville opened its first dog park today.

Man’s best friend has a new place to play in D’Iberville. The city’s first dog park has an area for small dogs, an area for large dogs, and even picnic tables for dog moms and dads.

Furry friends and their owners came to the D’Iberville dog park ribbon cutting to celebrate the new pet playground.

The project has been in the works for around two years and the parks and recreation committee has been working hard to open the park to the community.

Troy Saucier is the parks and recreation director for the city. He says the dog park has an array of features for pets and their owners. “We have two sections, a large dog area, a small dog area. Both areas have an agility course with tubes, rings, a grooming table, and a picnic table to sit down.”

Dogs that attend the ribbon cutting were given a goodie bag with treats. City of D’Iberville Manager Bobby Weaver says the park has big things ahead. “Phase two is going to consist of a frisbee golf course which will outline the perimeter on three sides of the actual dog park. We’re going to expand parking. We’re looking at putting a splash pad in right over here to my left. And then the old building we’re going to convert to restrooms. We’re trying to make a more complete park. It makes it a lot more available for public need and public use.”

The dog park is located on 7th Avenue in D’Iberville and is open to visitors from 7 a.m. until dusk.
