Smokin’ the River City festival wraps up in Moss Point

Boaters showed their speed on the Escatawpa River over the weekend.

Smokin’ the River City was back for its second year, featuring drag boat racers from as far south as the Florida Keys and as far west as Texas.

As the boaters took to the water, spectators enjoyed live music and vendors in Downtown Moss Point.

53 boaters were divided into seven classes, all looking to go home as the winner of their division.

Drag boat Racer Kevin Tuberville says this is the most intimate track he’s competed in. “Oh man, we’ve enjoyed it or whatever, but the City of Moss Point enjoys us being here. All the boaters and all their families, they enjoy it too. It’s probably the most up close and personal race site that we have.”
