Resurrection Catholic beats West Union to win 1A State Championship Series
Less than six months after the heartbreaking loss of Resurrection Catholic Baseball Coach Lee Tingle, the Eagles won their second straight 1A state championship in his honor.
RCS was led by Coach Tingle’s nephew Cole Tingle on the mound, who was dominant in a 10 to 1 game 2 win over West Union at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
Tingle also contributed a 2 RBI single, putting an exclamation mark on a six-run sixth inning following a four-run fifth inning.
Coach Tingle’s son Trace also scored a run in the sixth, making Resurrection’s back-to-back crowns that much more special.
Jesus San Miguel said, “It means a lot to come out here, especially with the loss of our coach, and just do this for him. This whole season was for him. All the hard work and dedication that we put it. Man, it just feels great to get this win for him.”
Trace Tingle said, “Yeah, it’s really special. We’ve been praying all year that my Dad is like the center of the season, and we did it for him.”
Head Coach Aaron Frederic said, “I would tell him that if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t be here, and he was just a big instrumental part of this program over the years and just being able to get here for him the last two years – three years – and then two years winning it, that’s what I would tell him is that he’s such a big part, and we went out today with him on our minds and able to walk out of here and win one for him.”
Cole Tingle said, “We would just tell him we love him, and we did it all for him.”
