Lifeguard shortage impacting Kroc Center in Biloxi
The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Biloxi is staying afloat during a national lifeguard crisis.
The Kroc Center indoor aquatic facility is coming out of a rough spring season due to the lack of lifeguards, selling fewer swim lessons, resulting in a slight loss of revenue.
As we inch closer to the official start of summer, the Kroc Center is now fully booked with swim lessons, but is still looking to fill one more lifeguard position.
With swim lessons resuming in the fall, the aquatics department feels uneasy about retaining the lifeguards already on staff. PR and Marketing Director Morgan Shiyou said, “We do fear that those college students that come into the summer and leave to go back to school, you know, we’re going to have to refill those positions come fall. So, if you can get certified, if you want to get certified, give us a call. We have a great partnership with the YMCA who is helping us so much with certifying lifeguards.”
The YMCA and the American Red Cross are offering free lifeguard certifications right now. Click here for more information.
