Fatal Shooting at Waffle House
A man fatally shot a Waffle House employee in the head early this morning on Beach Boulevard. This was after she asked him to put out his cigarette inside the restaurant.
John Lizana dropped his wife off at the Waffle House in Biloxi for her 6 a.m. shift and was shocked to hear a shooting occurred hours before, leaving a fellow employee dead. “It does make you a little nervous, makes you a little apprehensive about things. She’s fine, it has nothing to do with the business she works for, Waffle House, it’s just the people.”
Forty-five year-old Johnny Mount was arrested outside of the restaurant and has been charged with first-degree murder of the 52-year-old woman and Waffle House employee. “She’s a very beautiful lady and she’s gone now. Her life ended way too soon. We all bring stuff to the table but what she was bringing to the table has been cut off now because of senseless stuff,” said Lizana.
An argument broke out when Mount was smoking a cigarette inside the Waffle House, the employee asked him to put it out but he refused. He then took out his gun and shot her.
The woman working behind the counter was transported to Merit Health and was pronounced dead from the injuries at 1:40 a.m.
Lizana and other Biloxi residents cannot believe such an act of violence happened just hours after Thanksgiving. Derrick Meeks, who lives around the corner, said, “Everyone’s coming into town and people are getting together for family. I guess the guy was a loner that just came out of nowhere and tried to disrupt people’s family holidays.”
“We need to take a pause about things and do what’s right. It’s all around us, all the time, who can imagine going to work at a Waffle House and you don’t come home the next day,” said Lizana.
Unfortunately, for the employee’s family, that worst nightmare is now a reality.
Mount has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. His bond is set for $2 million.
