Ocean Springs Woman Arrested for Embezzlement
A woman is behind bars charged with embezzling more than $90,000 from an elderly man.
After a month long investigation, the Ocean Springs Police Department determined 27-year-old Ashley Ann Bandyk of Ocean Springs had embezzled $91,000 from the man she was supposed to be helping. The victim hired Bandyk to assist with his daily activities as well as his finances because he was unable to take care of them himself because of his medical condition.
Police say Bandyk transferred the 68-year-old man’s money using a pay pal account under a fraudulent business name. Captain William Jackson with the Ocean Springs Police Department said, “He started looking at his bank statements and saw where his money was taken out for things that he did not authorize her to take out, beauty salons, pay her apartments, her own bills that she had acquired. She saw a crime of opportunity and she took the risk.”
Bandyk is being held at the Ocean Springs Police Department on a $200,000 bond. She is charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
