Assisted Living Facility Evacuated
Today, a fire caused an assisted living center in Biloxi to be evacuated.
The Biloxi Fire Department arrived to the Pillars of Biloxi at about 8:15 this morning. Firefighters were met with smoke in the hallways but the fire had already been extinguished by the sprinkler system in the room.
Residents and workers made it out safely. There were no injuries. The facility returned to business as normal.
Biloxi Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark Dronet said, “So everyone was out safely, no one was hurt. After that, the firefighters continued to help with the patients and make sure they were out of the area that had smoke in the rooms and get the area vented out and clean up some of the water damage that was caused from the sprinkler head.”
No one was in the room at the time the fire started. The cause is still under investigation.
