9/11 Attack Changes Air Travel Forever

The 9/11 terrorist attacks against the United States have changed the way Americans experience air travel. Most of those changes are increased security measures and restrictions on what passengers can bring onboard airplanes.

Thursday, News 25 spoke with passengers, who said they didn’t think much of travelling on the anniversary of September 11th. Passengers told News 25 most of the airports they traveled through Thursday were busy and full of people flying to different places. Officials at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport say there was not any noticeable decrease in passengers flying on the anniversary of September 11th.

Those who were flying on a regular basis before September 11th say the biggest difference is the longer wait times at the security checkpoints and more stringent security rules. So for the most part, Thursday was just like any other day at the airport.

Ted Inbau, a passenger, says, “I think some people didn’t realize what the day was. They had a moment of silence on our flight this morning at 5:49, the exact time it happened.”

Orest Olineck, another passenger, says, “Security’s changed, that’s all. Gotta’ be a little more patient, that’s all, patient with others. Yeah, it’s an inconvenience, you gotta’ get up earlier and you gotta’ be patient in the line, but that’s all.”
