Victim identified in deadly train-vehicle accident in Stone County

One person is dead and four others injured after a van was hit by a train in Stone County.

Stone County Coroner Wayne Flurry identified the victim as 58-year-old Shirley Holmes of Wiggins. She died as a result of her injuries at Forrest General Hospital. Officials at the scene said Holmes was ejected from the van when the train hit it.

The incident happened in the Bond community about 1:30 p.m. at the train crossing on Pump Branch Road, just off Highway 49.

Flurry said another person in the vehicle had significant injuries.

Kansas City Railroad and the Stone County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
