Mississippi Aquarium welcomes three new beavers

The Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport welcomes new animals at a new exhibit.

The aquarium adopted three beaver brothers, who can be seen in the front entrance as you walk in.

The brothers are named after Blues’ musicians, B.B., King, and Elvis. Ironically enough, the Beavers’ names match up with their personality.  Elvis is loud and vocal, B.B. is sweet and calm, and King is independent.

The aquarium wanted to add beavers since they play a vital role in Coast ecosystems. They are also native to Mississippi and engineers of the wetlands, spending half of their time on water and the other half on land. Animal Care Specialist Alex Ware said, “It’s wonderful. We have fallen in love with these three boys and its amazing because when the kids walk in right away they can automatically identify our beavers as beavers. So, then we get to share that message and the important conservation story with the kids and adults at the aquarium as well.”

The aquarium is currently working on training the brothers for interactions, but still encourage visitors to stop by their habitat to say hello.
