Gun violence summit coming to Gulfport to help teens

The Gulfport community is coming together to find a solution to teenage violence.

Starting April 15th, a teen summit will be held once a month at the Jazz Quarters Café, focusing on gun violence.

Dr. Gregory J. Barabino, vice president of Dedicated Men Mentoring, is putting a panel of experts together to help youth with issues they may be dealing with at school or at home. The summit will include a concert, music, food, games, and more.

Dr. Barabino’s mission is to give teens a safe space to express their needs while providing them with resources so they do not feel alone. “When something’s wrong, a child, when they walk out of this summit, they can pick up that phone Monday morning and they can still be connected to a resource, that they could have problem solving techniques, and adults, trained individuals to work with them.”

Activist Stan Moore said, “Right now, we are suffering from a lack of understanding and appreciation from each other. So, being able to come together and to coincide with each other is something that needs to be addressed, especially when it comes down to the gun violence.”

Parents are welcome to the summit as well and there will be a separate section for them. If you’d like to get in contact with Dr. Barabino, text or call him at 501-554-1753.
