Our Lady of Fatima Elementary breaks ground on gym

Our Lady of Fatima Elementary and Preschool broke ground on their new gymnasium this morning.

Board members, city officials, students, and teachers gathered for the ceremony and say they’re excited for this long-overdue gym.

The process started about four years ago, but COVID hit and put everything on hold.

The new 12,000 square foot facility will host indoor sporting events, school plays and performances, graduations, and other special events.

Irby Bros. Construction is building the gym and they hope to be finished by next spring. Our Lady of Fatima Pastor Rev. Henry McInerney said, “We will probably have the school masses in here if the weather is inclement so they won’t have to travel from here over to the church on the wet days. So, we will have the masses in here for the school. The kids will be excited about it.”

The initial funds for the gym have been secured, but Our Lady of Fatima Elementary will be launching a fundraising campaign to assist with additional and ongoing costs.
