Moss Point City Council hosts redevelopment public meeting

The City of Moss Point held a public meeting to discuss redevelopment and redistricting plans for the future.

The first topic of discussion was going over details of the potential redistricting of the city. This plan will see several adjustments of the six wards, all made to help adjust population balance amongst them.

Following this discussion, the council discussed the possibility of a tax increment financing redevelopment plan.

This plan would offer incentive for new developers who build in Moss Point with these incentives coming in the form of a tax rebate.

Mayor Billy Knight says these kinds of plans are important to continue the development of the city. “Well, you know, everything is competitive. You know, and if it’s competitive, you have to have some reason that people want to come; and this is one way we can do it. Other cities are doing it, so Moss Point gotta do it as well. We got to get in the game so that we can encourage people to come to Moss Point.”

No final decision has been made on either topic and both will be discussed more at future meetings.
