Road drainage top priority for Harrison County Road Department
It rains a lot here and all that water falling on the roads needs somewhere to go in order to keep drivers unimpeded.
The water has to be able to properly run off of, then away from, the road to keep it from ponding. The Harrison County Road Department has 800 miles of road to maintain and their main focus is drainage.
County Road Manager Tim Smith talks about how high of a priority these projects are. “I got crews pretty much working every day of the week, focusing on our drainage… changing out pipes, culverts, old infrastructure. We look at our bigger cross-over pipes, stuff like that.”
If you do encounter a work zone, be mindful of signage including slowing down or avoiding the area if asked to do so.
