Class Act Teacher of the Month: Creekbend Elementary and Middle School’s Chasity Lewis
It’s time to introduce you to this month’s Class Act and while our featured teacher has only been in the classroom for a few months now, it’s clear she is already making a mark on the lives of her students and fellow teachers.
Grant Chighizola takes us to Creekbend Elementary and Middle School to meet her.
It’s a new classroom and still a new atmosphere for fourth grade teacher Chastity Lewis. The first-year teacher already had a connection to Creekbend as a student teacher and jumped right in this school year. “I’m learning just as much as they are. We are learning together.”
Our teacher of the month was nominated by her sister, something she says came as a complete surprise. “It was very shocking, but it brought a smile to my face that my sister would recommend me.”
As she goes through each day with her students in each subject, Ms. Lewis says interacting with kids on their level goes a long way in helping them grow and learn. “We draw lots of pictures, we do lots of group things, I sit on the floor with them, we’re all standing up together, we do everything together.”
In Ms. Lewis’ class, each day is a new start and a new opportunity to do great things. “Every day is a new day. Just because you have one bad day doesn’t mean tomorrow has to be a bad day too. Every day is a fresh start.”
